I needed a tie to wear to our usual Friday morning donuts. The Campbell's Soup brand was trademarked on 9 January 1906. My favorite for the last few years has been tomato bisque, prepared with milk and enhanced with several tablespoons of salsa.

Today we are taking some grandchildren to the Berea Food Bank for a tour! We know that they will learn what a food bank is and (most importantly) how a food bank shows an excellent way to help people in need. We met Mr. Tony Crachiola for our tour and he was very happy to see my canned foods tie!

On this date in 1906, Campbell's Soup® received its trademark. My tie shows several famous flavors. It's also rather shocking to know that today is National Static Electricity Day, although nobody knows what sparked that idea.

Today's tie features "kitchen staples" like condensed soup, canned meats, baking powder and mustard. I wish it also had a box of cornstarch, because today marks the anniversary of U. S. Patent #2000, awarded to Orlando Jones in 1841 for the production of cornstarch!

February is "Canned Foods Month." Hooray for soups and nuts and tropical fruit salad. I'm also a fan of home canning for applesauce, pickles, and fruit jams, but those foods are put into "canning jars" which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

February is National Canned Food Month. I was recently given this great "soup to nuts" tie, and this is the first appropriate occasion to wear it. According to one well-preserved Web source, some people celebrate this month by clearing out all the outdated cans in their kitchens, while others take this month as a great opportunity to shop for new products. It's very important to maintain a full inventory of canned foods because (this authority says) "you can always pull out a can of something and make a concoction." Yes, it's the same shirt as worn on 26 January. It just looked right for the tie (and it had been washed). By the way, I had no ties to report from 27 January through 01 February because a major winter storm forced Eastern Kentucky University to close for almost a whole week, and also caused Nicholasville Presbyterian Church to cancel Sunday services!
