358 years ago today (in 1665), England created a municipal government called New York in what had been New Amsterdam. This tie jumbles the words "New York" and "The City" with taxis, big red apples and miniature cityscapes.

Today, Joel Wesley Sullivan Kleppinger is TWO YEARS OLD! His collective term for any rolling stock is "Beep Beep." When I showed him a selection of my ties, he immediately chose this one covered with beep-beeps. Someday we may go together to New York City where we'll see the beep-beeps in person!

Four years ago today, Nate (Nathanael David Howland Kleppinger) was born! When Jonathan asked him to choose a tie for Papa Seeds to wear, he said "the one with cars," which Jonathan soon tracked down as my "New York City Jumble" tie. So, for the second year in a row . . . this time on a red shirt for Nate's favorite color . . .

Yesterday (Saturday) was Nate David's third birthday! He came to my closet to choose my tie for today. Knowing his love for rolling stock, I helped him find a tie with cars!

Today's tie features New York City taxicabs. I am honoring the 118th anniversary of the first speeding ticket, which was issued on May 20, 1899, to a New York City cab driver named Jacob German. He was caught driving 12 miles per hour on Lexington St. in Manhattan.

On this date in 1653, the Dutch chartered the city of New Amsterdam, in the area called New Netherland (stretching between the Delaware, Hudson and Connecticut Rivers). My tie celebrates the jumbled life of New York City, 3 or 4 centuries later.

"New Amsterdam" was incorporated on this date in 1653, becoming a "city." It was renamed New York City in 1665. My new tie, a gift from Linda Frost (who is the director of our Honors Program), features a skyline, a yellow taxicab and other symbols of The City That Never Sleeps.
