15 December 25

We are midway through National Tie Month. Today it's exceptionally cold for central Kentucky, with morning temperatures in the single digits F. I'm quite sure my happy penguins are used to frigid land and air!

Today is also National Cupcake Day. The cupcake was originally known as the 1-2-3-4 cake because the recipe called for 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups of flour, 4 eggs, and also 1 cup of milk, and 1 spoonful of baking soda.

2 December 22

It's a chilly Friday on the second of December! My Christmas penguins are dressed for chilly weather and decorated with light strings. (And this is the last Friday workday for EKU in 2022!)

7 December 21

My seasonal tie for today shows penguins cavorting (or dancing) in the snow. Our Kentucky weather has not yet been snowy, but we have some hope!

10 December 20

Today is Human Rights Day, sponsored by the United Nations, and International Animal Rights Day, designated by "Environment, People, Law" and many animal rights organizations. The history goes back to this date in 1948 when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to 1978 when UNESCO proclaimed the parallel Universal Declaration of Animal Rights. My tie shows many merry penguins exercising their rights to celebrate dancing, snow and Christmas presents. Of special importance today, I'm helping my grandchildren shop (online) for special treats for their parents (to be picked up by me and then secreted by them until Christmas!).

21 January 20

Yesterday, 20 January, was Penguin Awareness Day! I was vaguely aware of them, but I waited until today to show this tie with penguins in the snow. (We had some light dusting on the ground this morning.)

25 April 18

It's World Penguin Day! The penguins on my tie happen to have Christmas presents, but the snow around them is simply routine for those who live in the Antarctic. I have no idea who knitted their hats and scarves.

30 November 16

We had "duties" at Somerset First Presbyterian Church today, so I had a good occasion to wear my Presbyterian Penguins Christmas tie! We were cooking for the weekly fellowship dinner, and then Beth had her children's choir time while I was ringing handbells, and then we had adult choir practice. This tie was a thank-you gift from the choir at Nicholasville Presbyterian Church eight years ago.

10 December 15

Today is both Human Rights Day, celebrating 67 years since the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and International Animal Rights Day. My Christmas penguins have the right to celebrate anything at all!

Penguins celebrating Christmas! Lunchtime with Mallie!

19/20 January 14

20 January is Penguin Awareness Day! But it's a holiday, when I won't be wearing a tie to work. So I'm celebrating one day early. If you follow this blog closely you'll recall that I wore this tie just two weeks ago. But I've worn it only once or twice a year since 2008, and I think it's a great winter tie, and it definitely keeps me aware of penguins.

7 January 14

On this, the coldest day of the 21st century so far, I am sporting these snowy penguins!

20 January 13

Today is Penguin Awareness Day! These penguins know how to celebrate.

10 December 12

December 10 is International Animal Rights Day, celebrated annually on the anniversary of the 1948 United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, in the hope that fundamental rights can be declared for non-human animals by 2048. These penguins clearly have the right to celebrate Christmas.

25 January 12

OK, I am (not?) confused. Some calendars say that January 25 is Opposite Day, when you are supposed to say or do the exact opposite of what you mean. So if you know about Opposite Day, shouldn't you refuse to celebrate it? How do you say so? Anyway, I missed celebrating Penguin Awareness Day, on January 20 (Friday). We currently have NO SNOW AT ALL in Kentucky, so maybe wearing this snowy tie today will bring in some "opposite" weather soon.

25 April 11

Bring out your penguins for World Penguin Day, always on April 25. My tie and pillow have snowy Christmas themes but that's OK because it's the 25th. The guys on the pillow are special because they have ties to go with their tuxedos!

19 December 10

Fourth Sunday in Advent; our choir is singing a cantata for the morning service. The choir gave me this happy penguin tie in December 08.

25 April 10

This is World Penguin Day! The only tie I have that features penguins is also a Christmas tie, which is appropriate for any 25th day of the month.

Penguins with Christmas lights and presents . . .

05 January 09

For the 12th Day of Christmas I'm re-wearing my penguins-in-the-snow Christmas tie. It's my last chance until late November 2009.
