The official holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is on Monday, 19 January 2026. My tie today celebrates his birthday on 15 January 1929. The tie came from the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia. It shows photos from his life and statements about many events, including the "I have a dream" passage from his speech at the Lincoln Memorial, 28 August 1963.

It's a very, very cold day in central Kentucky, and we are staying inside! But I still want to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968). The national holiday honoring him falls on Monday, 20 January this year. My special tie came from the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia. It shows photos from his life and statements about many events, including the "I have a dream" passage from his speech at the Lincoln Memorial, 28 August 1963.

Another occasion to wear this wonderful tie! Tomorrow (28 August, when I must celebrate something else) marks the 60th anniversary of the "March on Washington," famous for its size (200,000 marchers) and for the delivery of the "I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. My tie celebrates his life and work through images of his church, family, the March on Washington, and quotations from his speeches and writings.

My tie today celebrates the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is covered with images from his work and words from his speeches and writings. I am wearing it today because the official MLK, Jr. Day (Monday) was a holiday, and yesterday I was honoring my son's birthday. And I also needed to show a great tie to my Beginning Ethics class on our first day!

Today is special to our family as the birthday of Benjamin Kleppinger! Ben is the Community Engagement Coordinator for CASA of Lexington. He and Amanda and Evelyn live about 17 miles away and we get to see them most days of the week! Ben asked me to wear my tie that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose official "Day" is tomorrow.

15 January (Friday, off-work at EKU) marks the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968). My very special tie features photos of Dr. King and his family, words from his speeches and facts from his life. On this special day, read more about Dr. King and his commitments to peace, to fair treatment for all, and to nonviolent resistance to injustice, at the King Center's site.
