The theme for the Third Sunday in Advent is JOY. This snowman's hat is full of words like "HO-HO-HO," "JOY," "Cheer" and "Merry." He has three tiny lights that sparkle and blink!

The song about "Frosty the Snowman" premiered on 14 December 1950, sung by Gene Autry and the Cass Country Boys. On the same date in 1969, the television special premiered, with the song sung by Jimmy Durante. My snowman tie has very special sparkling lights!

Today marks the 71st anniversary of the "Frosty the Snowman" song and also the 52nd anniversary (plus one week) of the "Frosty the Snowman" animated TV special! My own snowman with a stovepipe hat also has sparkling lights.

Today is Nate's day! Grandson Nate is now five years old. To choose a tie for me to wear, Jonathan sat down with him to look at my collection (through my tie blog), but "he knew as soon as I asked which one he wanted. He wants the snowman that sparkles/light up because 'I love it when it lights up!'" We had a FaceTime call with him early today to watch him open our gifts (heavily themed with Batman and other superheroes) and to let him see my tie in action. Trivium: one of Nate's middle names is Howland, my mother's middle name, which was given to her to honor a family dear to her parents.

On this third Sunday in Advent 2019, I'm using my sparkling snowman tie to spread some JOY! I'm also happy to honor the 21st birthday of my nephew Jack Lang!

We're having a department Christmas party today, so I'm wearing this special snowman tie (even though we haven't had enough wintry weather yet for building snowpeople). To see the sparkling lights in action, see my post from June 2017.

I needed to find an "occasion" for 6 June, and I uncovered the fact that 201 years ago (1816), New England got 10" of snowfall, part of a "year without a summer" which followed the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia. So this gives me the perfect opportunity to debut this tie, featuring a snowman with sparkling lights. Its murky history goes back to a "White Elephant" party for Jonathan's youth staff at First United Methodist Church, Richmond, KY. We never had enough snow this winter for me to wear it!
