18 May 21

Today's holidays include Dinosaur Day and I Love Reese's Day. On this date is 1830, Edwin Beard Budding of England signed a licensing agreement for the manufacture of his invention, the lawn mower. I'm choosing to wear a tie that has been untied since October 2018. I guess the straight green stripes might represent paths in my grass that need to be cut.

9 October 18

Reassuring my friends/fans that Gene does have some very traditional ties . . . Some occasions for today are: Curious Events Day, Leif Erikson Day, National Moldy Cheese Day, Nautilus Night, and the birthdays of Mary Ann Shadd Cary (1823-1893), Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921), Emil Fischer (1852-1919), and Aimee Semple McPherson (1890-1944).

8 March 17

Today is International Women's Day, and the birthday of my cousin Sally Miller Sheets (whose mother was Ruth Kleppinger) and of my cousin-once removed Alyssa Kleppinger. I chose this tie because I like it and I need to wear it once in a while! If you need something else to celebrate on 8 March, see the list of birthdays and events at "On This Day."

21 April 15

For this no-occasion day I'm wearing a tie that I haven't used in a long time but which deserves to be seen.

3 September 13

Today is Clyde David Burberry's birthday anniversary! He chose this tie for me to wear today because it is "a classic . . . exquisite in its simple clean lines, and its colors can enhance so many different shirts." I put it on classic pastel blue today.

24 March 11

The only significant celebration declared for today is National Chocolate-Covered Raisin Day, and I am at a loss to come up with an appropriate tie for that! According to the history I'm keeping, this tie hasn't been worn since July 2008, so it's a good one to bring back for a non-occasion.

13 July 08

Several notes about July 13:

Births:
100 BC - Julius Caesar, Roman military and political leader (d. 44 BC) (born either July 12 or July 13)
1940 - Patrick Stewart, English actor
1942 - Harrison Ford, American actor

Deaths:
1896 - Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz, German chemist (b. 1829)
1960 - Joy Gresham, American writer (b. 1915)

People of many different stripes . . . so today's tie is striped . . .
