Today is the 242nd anniversary of New England's Dark Day (1780), when (according to the Wikipedia entry) "an unusual darkening of the day sky was observed over the New England states and parts of Canada. The primary cause of the event is believed to have been a combination of smoke from forest fires, a thick fog, and cloud cover. The darkness was so complete that candles were required from noon on. It did not disperse until the middle of the next night." According to news reports, some groups of people, including the Connecticut State Council, believed the world was ending. To celebrate this event I'm combining my deep dark red Habitat for Humanity tie with a black shirt!

Happy Birthday, Jimmy Carter! He's 96 years old and has stayed active with building houses with Habitat for Humanity since 1984. The photo is from October 2019; Habitat has announced that the current pandemic safety restrictions will prevent the annual Carter Work Project for 2020 and 2021.

I'm wearing my Habitat for Humanity tie to honor the 94th birthday of Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States! Carter has become known as the greatest ex-President in our nation's history. He and Rosalynn have worked consistently with Habitat for Humanity for many years, including a project this year in Mishawaka and South Bend, Indiana.

Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat for Humanity, was born on 3 January 1935. Today's tie honors the dozen or so Habitat house projects where I've helped, in central Kentucky and Mobile, Alabama.

If Jimmy Carter were looking through my tie collection, I'm quite sure he would choose my Habitat for Humanity tie to honor his 90th birthday today. He has also worked extensively with community health projects in Africa.

My tie honors the birthday of Jimmy Carter, on Monday, Oct. 1. His work on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, world peace, and disease prevention are continuing to add to his legacy as America's greatest ex-President. And I wish I had helped him continue as President too.
