31 October 24

A few days ago Jennifer Fairchild celebrated her birthday! Jennifer is in the communications faculty at Eastern Kentucky University, and we both worked in the Combs Classroom Building. She is a fan of everything related to Harry Potter, especially concerning Hermione Granger. Harry and Hermione were students in the Hogwarts house of Gryffindor. Jennifer says that Hermione "shows the world that frizzy haired, smart girls are the ones who get stuff done!"

Today we are celebrating granddaughter Mallie's birthday! She asked me to wear my Gryffindor coat-of-arms tie, because she is a fan of everything from Harry Potter.

31 July 23

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter, and also Happy Birthday, J. K. Rowling! The adventures for Harry at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry began on his eleventh birthday, which is dated as 31 July 1991. So as of today, Harry Potter is 43 years old. By coincidence, author J. K. Rowling's birthday is also 31 July, in 1965, so she is now 58. My tie carries the coat-of-arms of the Gryffindor House at Hogwarts.

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter, and also Happy Birthday, J. K. Rowling! The adventures for Harry at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry begin on his eleventh birthday, which is dated as 31 July 1991. So as of today, Harry Potter is 42 years old. By coincidence, author J. K. Rowling's birthday is also 31 July, in 1965, so she is now 57. Mallie (who is 9) and I (who will be 69 in a few days) chose to wear our matching Gryffindor apparel to help celebrate! We do not know why the stripes on our ties are at opposite angles, but we are differently-handed . . .

29 October 20

Celebrating another birthday from EKU-land! Today, Jennifer Fairchild (from the Department of Communication) asked me to wear my Harry Potter -- Gryffindor tie, because she "adore[s] Harry . .  and all things Gryffindor." Actually her own special character is Hermione: "In my opinion, she is the heroine of the Harry Potter novels. She shows us that all it takes is a frizzy haired, bookworm female to get things done!" Jennifer asked me to show it with the Ellie knot, which adds interest at the top, but I think it looks more symmetric with less bold designs.

30 July 20

Wearing my Gryffindor House tie to honor the birthdays (tomorrow) of J. K. Rowling (1965) and Harry Potter (1980). It seems that J. K. Rowling uncovered her close association with Harry sometime between 1991 (when Harry entered Hogwarts) and 1997 (when she published the first chronicle, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone).

31 July 18

Today is the birthday of both Harry Potter (1980-) and his chronicler J. K. Rowling (1965-). My tie bears the coat-of-arms of Gryffindor, Harry's house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Happy Birthday #27, Harry Potter! (And also Happy Birthday #52, J. K. Rowling!) I hope the Sorting Hat would match me with Gryffindor.

31 July 16

Happy Birthday to super special wizard Harry Potter, who is now 36 years old! This also happens to be the 51st birthday of super special writer J. K. Rowling, who knows Harry Potter quite well.

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter!  And also Happy Birthday to J. K. Rowling (1965). If I were at Hogwarts I would certainly hope to be sorting-hatted into Gryffindor.

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter! He is now 33 years old, and he happens to share this day with author J. K. Rowling (born in 1965). My tie bears the Gryffindor House coat-of-arms.

20 September 12

I think every day is Gryffindor Day. Harry Potter's birthday is July 31 (the same as J. K. Rowling), but I can't wait ten months to wear this wonderful birthday-present tie. Holding the wand for the photo was Beth's idea.
