It's been one year (52 weeks) since my friends at "Friday Morning Donuts" gave me a party to celebrate my retirement from EKU. One of those people -- Melanie Givan -- has a birthday on 25 January, and she is the one who gave me this handcrafted yellow tie, made of crepe paper! We are having a cake party for her today. Happy Birthday, Melanie!

2 February 24
The second day in February is celebrated in many different ways, including Groundhog Day and National Wear Red Day. In France it is known as Crêpe Day, matching up with the religious holiday called Candlemas (La Chandeleur). I'm not eating crêpes today but I'm using the occasion to wear my new crepe paper tie, created by my friend Melanie Givan. According to Wikipedia, "Crêpe paper was one of the few exceptions to the aversion to paper clothing from the late 1920s onward, particularly as a material for making accessories for fancy-dress costumes." I'm very happy to have this unique addition to my ties!
