15 August 25

For no special occasion on 15 August I chose to wear this Jerry Garcia "Snail Garden Swirls" tie for Friday morning donuts. It's a great design that I hadn't worn since June 2024.

16 June 24

For this Father's Day, I'm wearing my Jerry Garcia "Snail Garden Swirls" tie. It was a Father's Day gift from Beth in 2017! I'm also showing my lanyard that labels me "Papa Seeds -- Full Service Grandfather." Not shown is my stealth black T-shirt that says, in Star Wars style, "I AM YOUR FATHER." Our family will celebrate at Apollo Pizza (in Richmond), and I have been informed that one of my gifts will be some gummi bears, one of my favorite treats!

15 January 23

Today (MLK Jr.'s birthday) we are having a family celebration of Benjamin Kleppinger's birthday (on 16 January). He asked me to wear a tie featuring green and purple, favorite colors for him and Amanda!

10 March 22

I discovered a new holiday for 10 March, called Festival of Life in the Cracks Day. It's intended to give us a time to celebrate the first signs of Spring, such as new growth in the cracks of our sidewalks or the blooming of crocuses (aka croci). My Jerry Garcia tie named Snail Garden Swirls gives me the impression of life bursting out in all directions and all colors.

It's World Meteorological Day! I'm celebrating with my Jerry Garcia "Snail Garden Swirls" tie, whose design reminds me of how hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons are displayed on weather maps. And the narrow lines on my shirt can represent isobars -- and of course I'm showing these things on my very own front (which is warm). The tie tack is a tiny purple guitar, labeled J Garcia.

Wearing splashy swirly colors today, as a big contrast with yesterday's solid beige tie, and also to help with the "party" we're having today at Eastern Kentucky University as our chief information officer Betina Gardner moves into her new role as Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. It's been fun to work with Betina for four years, especially as we faced the challenge to select the best learning management system (Blackboard) for our university! By the way, today is National Onion Day, sponsored by the National Onion Association. It's also the birthday of Bob Keeshan (1927-2004), best known as Captain Kangaroo.

5 March 18

My swirly tie today celebrates the 55th anniversary of Arthur Melin's patent for the "Hoop Toy," which became famous as the Hula Hoop. Today is also the birthday of my good friend Beth Blanchard, now living in Melbourne, Florida. I think she will enjoy these swirls too!

No special events for today, so I get to debut this great Father's Day present (from Beth)! It's a Jerry Garcia "Snail Garden" tie, and it came with a JGARCIA guitar tie tack! (If your memory is foggy, I'll remind you that Jerry Garcia was the lead guitarist and vocalist for the Grateful Dead, and his graphic art has given him enduring stardom in haberdashery. He was born in 1942 and died in 1995.)
