Today's tie for Christmas Eve continues a longstanding personal tradition . . . celebrating the message of the angels to the shepherds . . .

On Christmas Eve we attended both the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. services at First United Methodist Church of Richmond, Kentucky. Of course I wore two different ties!

Yesterday was Susan Burberry's birthday! Susan and her husband Clyde David have been special family friends since soon after we arrived in Berea, Kentucky, in fall 1986. She asked me to wear my "musical angels" tie because she has a nice collection of angel art and figurines. (I didn't wear a tie yesterday because Beth and I were busy celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary!)

At the annual service of Lessons and Carols at Somerset First Presbyterian Church, I'm helping Beth keep track of the music. She is playing organ and piano for 4 pre-service selections, 12 carols (all verses!), and 3 service pieces (prelude, offertory and postlude). As usual, the church musicians do the vast majority of the work for such events -- and they get to celebrate too! My tie shows fairly traditional angels playing musical instruments.
