20 July 25

It's National Pennsylvania Day! I was born there! There is no historical significance for 20 July, but the keepers of the National Day Calendar site started a tradition in 2017 to celebrate one state of the USA every week (well, almost). They designed the annual sequence to begin soon after 4 July and continue in the order of the states' admissions. As the second state, Pennsylvania's National Day falls on 20 July. The letters "PA" stand over a background of the official state seal, while the main colors of the tie match the seal's colors. I keep a copy of the state seal on the back of the tie!

12 December 22

Breaking my sequence of Advent/Christmas ties to recognize the 235th anniversary of statehood for Pennsylvania, the second state to ratify the Constitution, in 1787. When you have a tie that celebrates the state where you were born (in the colors of the official state seal) you have to take the opportunities to wear it as they arise!

 It's Pennsylvania Day! 21 July 21

The chroniclers at National Day Calendar invented the idea of celebrating one state every week, beginning with Delaware and cycling through the states by their order of admission, and starting nine or ten days after Independence Day. That way they conclude with Hawai’i in late June. Anyway, yesterday (20 July) gets the honor of Pennsylvania Day (my home state). I was gifted with this tie several years ago by my Mom Wilma Wollenweber because it has the colors of the PA state seal (in the background on the logo). Do you have some stories or amusing facts about Pennsylvania?

21 July 20

Yesterday (20 July) is designated by National Day Calendar as National Pennsylvania Day! The idea is that each state gets a "Day," spread over the weeks of the year, beginning after Independence Day, in the order by which they entered the Union. So National Delaware Day was last week (13 July), and the Second State (Pennsylvania) gets 20 July. (The choice of 9 days after 4 July to start the series seems to be arbitrary.) No matter what explanation is given, I have a good reason to wear my Pennsylvania "PA" tie! The front design uses the letters P-A as a window over the official state seal, and the main color matches the teal on the seal.

20-21 July 19

Two years ago the sponsors of National Day Calendar used the near-correlation of 50 states and 52 weeks in a year to construct a sequence of "State Days," beginning the week after Independence Day and following the order of admission to the Union. So 13 July is National Delaware Day, 20 July is National Pennsylvania Day, and so on. I'm wearing a tie found by Beth's mom that honors my home state of Pennsylvania, where the bold letters PA form a window over the state seal.

19-20 July 18

This tie needs some explaining! It was a Christmas gift from Mom (Wilma Wollenweber) who discovered it as a tribute to my birth-home state of Pennsylvania (PA). The image that is masked through the capital letters is the Great Seal of the State of Pennsylvania. I'm wearing it today because tomorrow (Friday) has been declared National Pennsylvania Day by the National Day Calendar. Their idea is to honor each of the 50 states, one state per week for the whole year, in the order they were admitted to the Union! The tributes begin during the week after Independence Day, so Pennsylvania -- as state #2 -- gets honored this Friday. National Kentucky Day (for state #15) will come up on 19 October. And so on, through National Hawaii Day next July.
