2 March marks the birthday of Theodore Geisel (1904-1991), known better as Dr. Seuss! The Cat in the Hat always sports a bow tie, so I'm wearing this tie on my bow tie shirt!

This is the first of two Dr. Seuss Days for me. Count with me -- One, Two! Tomorrow is the official day, marking the birthday of Theodore Geisel (1904-1991), but I have two excellent (and reversible!) Dr. Seuss ties, so today I'm showing The Cat in the Hat. And a Sneetch wanted to be in the picture with me, showing off his star-on-thar.

Today marks 116 years since the birth of Theodore Geisel (1904-1991), better known as Dr. Seuss. I've never understood why I didn't get to read his wonderful books in my earliest years; I didn't know about "Horton Hears a Who!" until I was in college. My tie celebrates The Cat in the Hat, but our cat Gizmo will do nothing like that. If you have time, and enjoy a good rhyme, please open the link and have a good think about green eggs and ham, led by that Sam-I-Am!

Do you remember "Thing 1" and "Thing 2"? They helped The Cat in the Hat bring lots of fun into the house while Mother was out. Today is the first day of classes at EKU and I'm hoping to bring fun into TWO classrooms! As in every Fall since 2000 I have my regular Honors Freshman Seminar, but as quite a surprise I am also teaching one section of Beginning Philosophy, this time in a physical classroom!

Today marks the 55th anniversary of the publication of The Cat in the Hat! The book ends with these extremely important questions: "Then our mother came in / And she said to us two, / 'Did you have any fun? / Tell me. What did you do?' / And Sally and I did not know / What to say. / Should we tell her / The things that went on there that day? / Should we tell her about it? / Now, what SHOULD we do? / Well . . . / What would YOU do / If your mother asked YOU?"
