Another snowy day in December, making the snowpeople on my tie very happy!! I'm not building a snowman today but I will brave the cold (wind chills in the teens) to fill my 18 bird feeders -- mixed seed, safflower, sunflower and suet -- and to fill our heated bird bath.

Hooray for Winter! One of my early childhood books featured the poem "I like winter, I like snow; I like icy winds that blow." Today in Berea, Kentucky, we are finally getting some honest winter, with temperatures in the 'teens and inches of snow on the ground. The snow covers a layer of ice so it's not safe to travel -- but the snowpeople on my tie are very happy indeed. I find it interesting to note that the "school closures" common to Kentucky winters are being proclaimed now as days for "virtual learning." I suppose the school systems have some way to measure attendance, so they can claim the state funding that depends on those headcounts?

With no particular occasion to celebrate, I choose to wear these happy snowpeople today. It's been a very hot September, and the 90-degree high temperatures will continue right into October. I like thoughts of cold weather, and I have not worn this tie for almost two years. There's also the news about massive blizzards in Montana . . .
