26 August 25

For National Dog Day I'm wearing my Snoopy "checkerboard" tie. Our own dog (Belle) Pepper, a black lab mix, is 9 years old! Today is also National Toilet Paper Day . . .

I'm wearing my Snoopy "checkerboard" tie just because it hasn't been seen for several years. I have many great memories of enjoying Peanuts® comics!

25 November 20

Today's "Snoopy checkerboard" tie helps celebrate the birthday of Peanuts® creator Charles Schulz, on 26 November (1922-2000). But I learned that the day before Thanksgiving is called "Tie One On Day," referring specifically to the need to tie an apron on when you want to prepare food for this special family time. And of course I like the extra reference to "ties." So Beth and I are wearing our aprons today -- as we roast our turkey and make side dishes. (My apron says "Gene Cooks Philosophically.") We cannot gather tomorrow with our usual group of 15-20 people from six or seven households this year, so today we are sharing out the turkey and stuffing and assorted sides with our Madison County families, and then we will be Zooming together around lunchtime on Thanksgiving Day!

25-26 November 18

Catching up on two days for posting about my ties: On Sunday I wore my Escher "flying fish" tie, tessellating the plane with an iconic fish in three colors. I had no special reason except that it's a great tie and there was no great occasion to celebrate. Today (Monday) is the birthday of Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts®, and so Snoopy has come along to wander all over a checkerboard.

26 November 17

Today's Snoopy tie celebrates the birthday of Charles Schulz, in 1922! "Snoopy appeared on the October 4, 1950 strip, two days after the first [Peanuts] strip. He was called Snoopy for the first time a month later, on November 10" (Wikipedia).

My Snoopy tie for today celebrates Charles Schulz' birthday later this week (Thursday, 26 November)!

21 November 13

Hello! Snoopy is helping me greet you on "World Hello Day," a rather obscure holiday that is celebrated simply by greeting ten people. It was started in 1973 in response to the Israeli-Egyptian conflict that year, to inspire peaceful communications.

2 October 12

62 years ago today the first Peanuts® cartoon was published, with Charlie Brown and a few friends. Snoopy was added a little later, but it's time to wear this tie again!

24 August 11

Today is "International Day Against Intolerance, Discrimination and Violence Based on Musical Preferences, Lifestyle and Dress Code." For my tie, I am choosing Snoopy because he is nonviolent (except when he plays airplane war with the Red Baron), has wide musical tastes, and dresses (when necessary) against all dress codes.

26 October 10

I have not yet discovered any great occasion to tie to October 26. It is the birthday of Pat Sajak but I don't have any Wheel-of-Fortune-related neckwear. This week is known (?) as Prescription Error Education & Awareness Week, which suggests very little about how one might celebrate it. I chose this Snoopy tie because it hadn't been worn in many months.

12 November 09

The special event linked to November 12 is the birthday of Auguste Rodin, sculptor, who is most famous for his creation of the "Thinker." I wore that tie very recently, so I took this opportunity to wear my Snoopy checkerboard tie instead.

26 March 09

This is "Make Your Own Holiday Day," so I chose to make it Snoopy's Day.
