Our son (by inclusion) David Anderson has a birthday today! He asked me to wear my rainbow dots tie, last seen two years ago. David lives in Nashville, TN and works as a “HR Generalist” for Brookdale Senior Living in Brentwood, TN. This year his birthday comes with the arithmetic date magic of 2 X 13 = 26.

Today at Richmond First United Methodist Church my eldest granddaughter is being baptized! Mallie loves rainbows. Several years ago she and her mother found this tie for me at Goodwill, and I always enjoy wearing it for her. My tie bar holds one-ninth of a medallion crafted with her monogram; the other eight parts belong to Beth and other close family. Mallie is growing to be a wonderfully caring young woman who loves all her family and friends.

Today we finally get to celebrate with granddaughter Mallie for her seventh birthday earlier this month! Three years ago, Courtney and Mallie were shopping at Goodwill, when Mallie said she wanted to find a rainbow tie for me. This one -- with multicolored dots on a shimmering background -- fit the bill nicely! So I'm wearing it today when we get together for a party.

Celebrating the birthday of composer PhilippilihPPhilip GlassGlassssalG (1937-). His music was originally tagged as "minimalist," due to the practice of taking a short sequence of notes as the fundamental structure for a full musical score, with constant repetitions and perturbations. I like to  play with "minimalist" techniques whenever I type his namenameemaneman.  He prefers to describe himself as a "classicist" and as a composer of "music with repetitive structures." My tie's simple pattern of repeating rainbow dots has an enchanting/mesmerizing effect against the shiny light-copper background. Mallie (who is now 5-1/2) gifted me with this tie a few years ago because her favorite color has been "rainbow." You can listen to an excerpt from Philip Glass' piano composition "Glassworks" here.

I'm closing out my birthday month by wearing this tie which was a birthday gift from Mallie Jayden Elizabeth Kleppinger! The story, as I was told, is that she and her mommy went to Goodwill to find a tie for Papa Seeds, and Mallie said it should be a rainbow. Mommy said "We'll see," but she was very doubtful that there would be anything like a rainbow. Finding nothing on one rack, Mommy turned around and noticed this one -- which fit Mallie's need perfectly! I'm happy to wear rainbow colors on a day promising very dreary rainstorms into the night.
