Today is the 240th anniversary of New England's Dark Day (1780), when (according to the Wikipedia entry) "an unusual darkening of the day sky was observed over the New England states and parts of Canada. The primary cause of the event is believed to have been a combination of smoke from forest fires, a thick fog, and cloud cover. The darkness was so complete that candles were required from noon on. It did not disperse until the middle of the next night." According to news reports, some groups of people, including the Connecticut State Council, believed the world was ending. My midnight-blue woolen tie captures the darkness well.

I'm a few days late to celebrate Shetland Wool Week! The dates for 2017 were 23 September - 1 October. But today I'll wear this nice navy blue wool tie on my tartan-ish shirt anyway. "Shetland Wool Week is a world renowned celebration of Britain's most northerly native sheep, the Shetland textile industry and the rural farming community on these islands."

No special occasion today, so I chose to wear a plain woolen tie I haven't worn since March 2013. It's a novelty for me to be able to wear to strongly patterned shirt!

Today marks the birthday (in 1829) of Levi Strauss, founder of the first company to produce blue jeans! I don't have a denim tie but I'm wearing a denim shirt and my Levi's "Silvertab" jeans. Today's date is also math-worthy because 26/2=13.

230 years ago, on May 19, 1780, much of New England experienced "The Dark Day." Darkness covered the land from noon until the following day, with candles providing the only light. Atmospheric conditions included fog, clouds and forest fire smoke. According to news reports, some groups of people believed the world was ending.

Yesterday, for no particular reason, I wore my Veggie Tales® tie featuring "Larry's Lagoon." It was fun and definitely more enlightening than today.
