May the Fourth be with you! It's Star Wars Day. Tomorrow is sometimes called Revenge of the Fifth. I'll stick with my starfighters tie today, including some Tie Fighters!

Tomorrow (16 August) is the birthday of our son-by-inclusion David Haskins. He loves science fiction and asked me wear a tie with a space theme -- so I selected my Star Wars® star fighters! The one shown near the top is an Empire "TIE" fighter.

Yesterday was George Lucas' 75th birthday. Yesterday was also National Teachers' Day. This Star Wars® starfighters tie (including Imperial Tie Fighters) was a Teacher's Appreciation gift from my former student and teaching assistant Josh Akers!

George Lucas, originator of Star Wars®, was born on this date in 1944. The Force is Strong with this one! My Starfighters/Tie-fighters tie was a gift several years ago from former EKU Honors student and Freshman Seminar teaching comrade Josh Akers.

This weekend marks the fiftieth birthday (on Saturday) of my oldest nephew Curtis Nolan Huizenga! He asked me to wear my Star Wars® tie-fighter tie on Sunday because he is a fan of all things astronomical, and because he remembers watching "A New Hope" with his father during its premiere release 40 years ago. Nolan is Associate Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. We were very happy to witness his marriage last year to Aimee Moiso, who is completing her doctoral work at Vanderbilt University Divinity School.

May the Fourth Be With You! This is Star Wars Day, and this year (thanks to former student and teaching assistant Josh Akers) I have a most appropriate tie to wear. It features several Tie Fighters!

Courtney Kleppinger's birthday is on 24 December, so I have to use a different day to honor her special day! For today she chose my "Papa Seeds" tie, which is designed around a photo of me holding my granddaughter Mallie for the very first time (about two hours after her birth). The story of "Papa Seeds" goes like this: More than ten years ago, Ben and Jonathan were playing around with nicknames for me, and settled on calling me Seeds (because they did not like "Poppy"). So when it was time to decide on a nickname for my role as grandfather, I became Papa Seeds. And by logical transference, Beth became "Mama Seeds."



Later the same day we went with Ben and Amanda to see "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens," and I wore my Star Wars Starfighters tie!

Happy 17th Birthday, nephew Jack Lang! He loves Star Wars . . . and I am definitely a "tie fighter"!

Happy Birthday, Orville Wright! He and his younger brother Wilbur were the "first in flight." My tie celebrates much more recent adventures in flight, featuring Tie Fighters and Starfighters from "Star Wars."

George Lucas' birthday (in 1944) gives me a great occasion to debut this Star Wars® tie, featuring TIE FIGHTERS! This was a "Teachers' Appreciation Week" gift from my former EKU Honors Program student Josh Akers. I tied it so that there's a TIE fighter right below the knot!
