23 December 25

This is the 23rd day of National Tie Month. I'm wearing my snowman tie that chirps "Jingle Bells" in hopes that we might see some snow soon, but that's very unlikely. We had snow two weeks ago but our weather has been very warm and will probably be so for the rest of the year!

21 February 25

Today's low temperature was 1 or 2 degrees F. We have about 5 inches of snow on the ground, with drifts up to about 10 inches. But this is likely to be the end of our snowy season, so I'm happy to wear my snowman tie that includes an electronic chip that chirps "Jingle Bells." According to my blog I last wore it in December 2021!

It's a warm day in Kentucky, but I'm celebrating this season with a snowman tie! What makes this tie very special is its electronic chip that chirps "Jingle Bells."

Another snowy day, so my musical snowman has shown up! He has a button near his base that chirps "Jingle Bells."

18 August 19

There's no reason to wear a snowman tie today! Which seems perfect for Serendipity Day. Of course it would also be okay to have reasons -- so I'll say it's the hottest day of the year so far, and this is a tie I haven't worn since Beth's birthday in January 2016. The tie -- a gift from Amanda Wheeler for Christmas 2008 -- contains a musical chip that chirps "Jingle Bells." (And I should note that Friday, a no-tie day, was the birthday of son-by-inclusion David Haskins.)

27 January 16

For her birthday celebration today, Beth Kleppinger selected my red snowman tie, which includes an electronic chip that chirps "Jingle Bells." Beth is very happy that the snow that arrived on Friday has lasted until today!

Also noted -- yesterday I wore another snowpeople tie, to celebrate the snow.

7 December 15

Next week, on 14 December, the song about Frosty the Snowman turns 65 years old (and some people think it should be retired!). I am wearing this snowman tie today by special request from my Honors Seminar students -- I told them that it is my only tie that plays music! It contains an electronic "chip" that chirps out "Jingle Bells." Our December weather has not produced any snow yet in Kentucky but I'm dreaming about it.

22 February 15

Yay, I finally get a day to wear this snowman tie! Eastern Kentucky University was closed for an entire week due to heavy snow and super-subzero temperatures, and so this is my first day in a while to wear a tie -- and it was "only" for family lunch and my visiting time at Telford Terrace, because our church service was cancelled too! This tie has the special feature of a microchip that plays "Jingle Bells."

12 December 13

I don't wear a tie on Saturday, so today I'm celebrating the premiere of both the "Frosty the Snowman" song on Dec. 14, 1950, and the "Frosty the Snowman" TV special on Dec. 14, 1969.

Hooray for some more snow today! I get to wear my musical snowman tie -- it contains a (chirpy) music box that plays "Jingle Bells"!

12 January 11

Yet another snowy day! This is my tie that plays a chirpy version of "Jingle Bells."

14 December 10

Due to snowy weather and icy roads, EKU has announced a two-hour delay (for the second day in a row). This snowman tie includes an electronic music box that plays "Jingle Bells."

Another snowy day, with EKU on a 2-hour delay!

14 December 09

When she gave me this tie last December, Amanda Wheeler documented the following facts in the life of Frosty the Snowman:

December 14, 1950: Columbia Records released "Frosty, the Snowman" as sung by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys. It was written one year after the success of Autry's recording of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

December 14, 1969: CBS premiered the 30-minute animated television special based on Autry's song. It was produced by Rankin/Bass and featured the voices of Jimmy Durante and Jackie Vernon.

Happy Holidays, Frosty! A music box inside this tie plays a chirpy version of "Jingle Bells."

13 January 09

Today the weather forecast says we'll get our first real snow of the winter (70% probability, up to one inch). My tie was a Christmas gift from Amanda Wheeler and it even plays "Jingle Bells"!

(I also discovered that my entry for 12 January is inaccurate. Those who still follow the Julian calendar actually celebrate New Year's Eve today, and New Year's Day tomorrow. I'm sure they have some excellent reasons for maintaining unconventional traditions, and I'm glad for any reason to wear my brilliantly hot pink tie.)
