10 February 26

The opportunity to donate blood today gives me the chance to wear my solid red tie, unseen since February 2022. I am also happy to show "Hip Hop the Blood Drop," a stuffy from the Kentucky Blood Center about 20 years ago. Today I learned that 1 in 4 people will need blood sometime in their lifetime.

What's your color for this day? The first Friday in February is always National Wear Red Day, raising awareness about heart disease and stroke. So I'm following suit . . .

13 November 17

The 13th of November must be a red-letter day for someone or something! Please help me find something to celebrate today!

Wearing RED for Pentecost Sunday. The Trinity knot, plus the red pants, plus the red hair tie, won me a nomination for most appropriately dressed man at Somerset First Presbyterian Church; the church potluck audience awarded me first-runner-up (out of two people)!

Oh, we also had an excellent worship service!

1November 15

All Saints' Day -- red is traditionally associated with martyrs. To celebrate "all the saints," all festal colors are appropriate, and many churches use white because it is "all colors." I don't have a pure white tie and I'm not sure I could keep it pure white!

15 October 14

Today's shocking red tie celebrates the high-voltage birthday (on Monday) of my nephew Matt Lang, an up-and-coming electrician! He offered no resistance when I suggested this tie, though we had to switch from his first train of thought (about railroads).

1 November 12

Have a joyous All Saints' Day! Enjoy these words from the hymn "I Sing a Song of the Saints of God":
 They lived not only in ages past;
 there are hundreds of thousands still.
 The world is bright with the joyous saints
 who love to do Jesus' will.
 You can meet them in school, on the street, in the store,
 in church, by the sea, in the house next door;
 they are saints of God, whether rich or poor,
 and I mean to be one too.

My red tie today honors the flag of Morocco, home of my friends Mustapha and Fadwa Jourdini. They are having their "American marriage" today, and asked me to be one of the witnesses!

Happy Birthday to me, Barack Obama, Stephen Sparks and millions of others. It's a red-letter day!

23 May 10

Today is Pentecost Sunday, where the liturgical color is RED. I've worn other red ties for Pentecost, but this time I got myself a SOLID RED tie. My selection of very bold solid color ties is growing.
