29 January 24

The last Monday in January is always Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! My celebration involves wearing my bubble wrap tie (and a bubble wrap ribbon around my pony tail) and handing out swatches of bubble wrap to friends and comrades (so they can enjoy the day and avoid the temptation to pop the bubbles on my tie!). Today was extra special because two of my granddaughters (E and T) helped me greet about three dozen friends at Eastern Kentucky University, and E had a wonderful time giving away the swatches and talking about Bubble Wrap Day! My lanyard says that I am Papa Seeds -- Full Service Grandfather.

Every seven years, on average, Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day falls on the birthday of both my sister (-in-law) Faith Lang and my daughter (by inclusion) Rachel Haskins. Happy Birthday, Faith and Rachel!

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day popped up again! In a tradition dating back to 2010 I'm wearing a tie made of bubble wrap, and hidden on the back of my head is a tied ribbon of the same material. I'm also handing out many swatches of bubble wrap to help people celebrate!

It's time for Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day again! This is my 13th celebration -- I've handed out swatches of bubble wrap to my students and coworkers on the last Monday in January every year since 2010, except for last year when everyone was at home! I attached my gummi bear tie tack without harming any bubbles on my tie. If you prefer virtual pops, please try the relaxing fun at "Bubble Wrap Pop."

The last Monday in January is always . . . Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! If I were working from my office at EKU, I would be parading around the halls of the Combs and Keith Buildings (and other places!), handing out 3-inch samples of bubble wrap as objects for appreciation/meditation/stress-relief. The swatches also discourage people from wanting to pop the bubbles on my tie. By the way, no bubbles were harmed when I attached the tie tack.

In previous years I had included a link to Virtual Bubble Wrap, where you could pop the bubbles online. Unfortunately, the site I have always used no longer works (because its animation was based on Flash). Maybe you can find one that pops now? And tell me about it?

The last Monday in January is always Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! This is my eleventh celebration, wearing my own bubble wrap tie, and also sporting a bow of bubble wrap on my pony tail. If I see you in person today I'm ready to give you a sample of bubble wrap for your personal use, in any way you see fit. I am aware that bubble wrap is not environmentally friendly, so maybe next year I will find some that is at least compostable. (My upside-down-exclamation-point tie tack is the logo from ties.com. No bubbles were harmed in attaching it today.)

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day has arrived again! Celebrate on your own by finding some bubble wrap to enjoy (typically by popping the bubbles with your fingers), or by visiting http://www.virtual-bubblewrap.com/. If you see me in person today, you are likely to be rewarded with a swatch of bubble wrap to pop! (Giving out samples keeps people from trying to pop my tie.)

28-29 January 18

The last Monday in January is always Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. Tomorrow (Monday) I'm wearing a tie for Faith Lang's birthday, so I'm using my bubble wrap tie on Sunday to alert my friends about the joys of bubble wrap. I'm handing out samples of bubble wrap today at church and then at work tomorrow! You can also enjoy popping virtual bubble wrap.

On a completely different topic, I must mention the birthday today of William Seward Burroughs in 1855, who went on to invent the adding machine (in 1885). I happen to have the adding machine from the late 1940s that my father Arthur Kleppinger owned, and which he used for recording church offerings for over thirty years until he got an electronic calculator. The name Barrett on my father's adding machine refers to Glenn J. Barrett, who designed machines for the Burroughs company in the early 20th century before setting up his own business in 1914.

Yesterday was Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! It has popped up for me today. Please find some bubble wrap to use or to pop -- or you can use the virtual popper at http://www.virtual-bubblewrap.com/bubble-wrap.swf. And yes, I have some bubble wrap tying my pony tail too.

Happy Bubble Wrap® Appreciation Day! Every year, the last Monday in January is the right day to pay attention to this great packaging material that's also excellent for stress relief. If you don't have the plastic stuff, you can still pop some bubbles at http://www.virtual-bubblewrap.com/. This is the seventh time I've celebrated with a bubble wrap tie!

It's Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! This is celebrated annually on the last Monday in January. I made myself a bubble wrap tie for the day, and I'm also handing out swatches of bubble wrap so that everyone can appreciate this incredibly pop-ular material.

I found out about Bubble Wrap® Appreciation Day (always celebrated on the last Monday in January) too late to honor it yesterday. So today we'll just continue appreciating this wonderful material, now 50 years old! You can play a virtual bubble-wrap-popping game at Sealed Air's Web site.
