When thinking about a tie to wear for Serendipity Day, I chanced to remember my happiness with gummi bears, and so I'm wearing my gummi bear tie! It shows some very large bears, and I happen to have some real gummi bears that are about the same size as on the tie! I hope you can take a moment today to enjoy reading this about serendipity: The word "serendipity" dates back to the mid-1700s. It was first coined by English author Horace Walpole in the year 1754. The author explained the root cause of the word to his friend in a letter. He mentioned that the word he found was taken from a Persian fairy tale called The Three Princes of Serendip. The narration of the tale is all about the three princes who were expelled from the kingdom of Serendip aka Sri Lanka to prove their worth. Serendipitous moments occur as soon as they travel the world as they made discoveries by accidents which they hadn’t looked for. Thus, serendipity referred to a journey and discovering something unexpected.
