Happy Birthday, adhesive and cellophane tape! Richard Drew was granted a patent for adhesive tape on this date in 1930. It was soon marketed by 3M as "Scotch tape." I did not create a tie from tape for this day, so I'll stick to wearing a very nice purple striped tie that has been invisible since February 2018. And because I'm wearing so much purple, Marvin K. Mooney has decided to stick with me. I've tried telling him "Will you please GO NOW!" but he seems to be stuck right here.
(Amusing factoid about the book by Dr. Seuss: "In a July 1974 collaboration with political humorist Art Buchwald, Dr. Seuss took a two-year-old copy of his book, crossed out 'Marvin K. Mooney' wherever it occurred and wrote in 'Richard M. Nixon'. With Dr. Seuss's consent, Buchwald and his editors reprinted the markup as a newspaper column, published July 30, 1974. Beset by Watergate, U.S. President Nixon resigned ten days later on August 9.")
