25 February 19

Happy Birthday, "Greenbacks"! On 25 February 1862, Congress passed the Legal Tender Act, authorizing the production of paper currency for the United States. Also noteworthy (haha) about money on this day: In 1923, bread in Berlin cost 2000 marks. A loaf of bread that in Berlin cost around 160 Marks at the end of 1922 cost 200,000,000,000 (200 billion) Marks less than a year later. So my tie for today celebrates "play money."
