President Grover Cleveland presided over the dedication of the Statue of Liberty on 28 October 1886, 140 years ago today. This event is celebrated today on the Bracket City online game! My tie shows a map of New York City with images of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty.
The tablet in her hand is inscribed with the date July IV MDCCLXXVI. Inside the statue, near the base, is a bronze plaque (installed in 1903) displaying the poem "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus. The most famous lines are these:
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
