23 January 26

National Handwriting Day is celebrated annually on 23 January. It is scripted to honor the birthday of John Hancock, famous for signing the Declaration of Independence in very large letters. One story, possibly apocryphal, is that he wanted the King of England to be able to read his signature without his spectacles. My tie shows the examples of handwriting I saw on the walls of my third grade classroom at Lincoln Elementary School, where Miss Welch made me practice a lot!
