For National Handwriting Day I'm wearing my tie covered with cursive alphabet lines. It's celebrated annually on the birthday anniversary of John Hancock (1737-1793), who famously said that his oversize signature on the Declaration of Independence was intended to be big enough for the King of England to read without eyeglasses. I learned cursive writing in second or third grade at Lincoln Elementary School, taught by Mrs. Kelly and Miss Welch. My penmanship has always been rather poor, and I routinely use scratchy "print" letters when I must handwrite something.
