Look over yonder
What do you see?
The sun is a-rising
Most definitely
A new day is coming (ooh, ooh)
People are changing
Ain't it beautiful? (Ooh, ooh)
Crystal blue persuasion
The song "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells debuted on this date in 1969. It is representative of much of the "good-feelin'" pop music of that era. Its main theme of peace, joy and good brotherhood has been interpreted in all sorts of ways, with some people suggesting sources as varied as promoting methamphetamine ("crystal meth") or the theology of Jehovah's Witnesses. Tommy James has always maintained that the lyrics have nothing to do with drugs or any particular religion. My shiny sky-blue tie simply celebrates crystal clear BLUE. Are you persuaded?
