I'm using my patchwork quilt tie to celebrate a potpourri of events for 8 April: birthday of author Barbara Kingsolver (1955); death of artist Pablo Picasso (1973); patent for a fire escape (a large bucket on a pulley) (1766); the first sale of milk in glass bottles (1879); and Hana Matsuri (Buddhist flower festivals, in Japan). The tie was given to me by a Telford Terrace (nursing home) resident -- a longtime quilter -- ten years ago, having enjoyed seeing my ties every Sunday!
