5 August 21

On this date in 1884, the cornerstone for the Statue of Liberty was laid on what was called Bedloe's Island. The location was renamed Liberty Island by an act of Congress in 1956. For my birthday (yesterday), Beth gave me a very amusing gummi bear tie tack (in orange!), and I could not resist giving him a spot on Fifth Avenue today. (I certainly could not wait to show him until Gummi Bear Day next July!)
