6 September 20

I'm wearing my new-to-me football tie today, because we're having our annual family Fantasy Football Draft! This year my team will be called the No Names, because this tie has "blank" helmets. And we're in good company with the "Washington Football Team." There are also many other "kickoffs" and "returns" in history today: In 1492, Columbus left the Canary Islands, his last port before crossing the Atlantic Ocean; in 1522, one of Ferdinand Magellan's ships returned to Spain, the first circumnavigation;  in 1620, the Mayflower departed from Plymouth, England; in 1916, the first self-service grocery store (Piggly Wiggly) opened in Memphis, TN; and it's the date in 3114 BCE that marks the beginning of the Mayan Long Count Calendar.
