24 June 20

Happy Birthday, C. Nolan Huizenga! My first nephew is a pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. He and his wife Aimee Moiso recently celebrated their fourth anniversary! When I asked Nolan to choose a tie for me to wear today, he asked for something that might represent the Black Lives Matter movement/personal ethos. He agreed that my Martin Luther King, Jr. tie would be very appropriate. I asked him for a favorite MLK quotation, and he replied: "First one that comes to mind is from the Letter from a Birmingham Jail: 'I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice...'"
