The ultimately-wise creators of the French Republican Calendar selected 25 Nivôse (which is our 14 January) to honor Chat (the cat). The images on my tie include faces somewhat like our Annie (1999-2015), Meg (1999-2016), Esther (2015-)and Gizmo (2016-), but I've also been owned by W. C. Fields (1999-2016) and Andrew (2015-). Today is also New Year's Day on the Julian calendar.
