Wearing my chemistry-lab-equipment-and-formulas tie to honor the birthday of Antoine Lavoisier (1743-1794). He developed the "oxygen theory of combustion," which was one of the pioneering discoveries in the transformation of modern chemistry from its roots in alchemy.
