On this date in 1967, Dr. Cicely Saunders founded the first modern hospice, St Christopher's, in London, England. This was the beginning of modern palliative care and the hospice movement. As they came near their deaths, my parents and my brother were served very well by hospice volunteers, in Pennsylvania and in Florida.The beautiful red, green, gold and brown designs on this tie always remind me of trees, leaves and the peaceful motion of time.
