According to the French Republican Calendar, which was observed officially in France from 1793-1805, today is Tomate (Tomato Day). This calendar had twelve 30-day months, with each month divided into three 10-day sections (no "Sundays"). Within the 10-day sections, eight days were named for a different flower, fruit or vegetable, and the remaining two were named for an animal and a tool. The month of Vendémiaire (grape harvest) began on our 22 September, and the 28th day of that month was Tomate. So here's Polka Bob the Tomato.
