Today marks the birthday in 1834 of Dmitri Mendeleev, famous as the Father of the Periodic Table. Long before the discovery of protons, neutrons and electrons, Mendeleev invented a way to tabulate the known elements that helped to make sense of similar properties among the groups of metals and nonmetals, and that also predicted the properties of elements not yet discovered.
