"Singin' In The Rain" premiered nationally on 11 April 1952. Seventy-three years later I did some singing in the rain on my way to Friday "donuts" with friends at EKU! I hope you enjoy the comedy and romance in this movie!

 I'm celebrating "Singin' in the Rain," which premiered on this date in 1952 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. My tie shows the stars (Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor) dressed for the weather as they sang the theme song while spinning their umbrellas!

On this date in 1952, "Singin' in the Rain" premiered in nationwide theaters. Its plot does not have an easily-described story line, and the idea of singing in a rainstorm is completely irrelevant to documenting the transition from silent films to talkies. But it's a great movie filled with very funny dancing and slapstick comedy, and I have a celebratory necktie. And it was raining today in central Kentucky, and I took advantage of the occasion to use my own voice to sing in the rain. As in previous years I will also note that 11 April 1954 has been documented as The Most Boring Day in the Twentieth Century. Several years before that, the world welcomed David Tennill, who would become "Papa Dave," my co-grandfather for the five children of Jonathan and Courtney! Happy Birthday, Papa Dave!

For International Strange Music Day, I've selected my tie that celebrates "Singin' In The Rain," which is surely appropriate for "strange music." I don't recall ever singing vociferously during a rainstorm. Humming under my umbrella, maybe. What's your selection of strange music today?

International Strange Music Day started out as a way for Patrick Grant to promote his new album, “Fields Amaze” in 1997. He picked August 24 because it was his girlfriend’s dad’s birthday, who had been a sort of artistic mentor to him.

 Tomorrow, 27 March, marks the 69th anniversary of the premiere of "Singin' in the Rain," a wonderful musical comedy based on the transformation of movies from silent to "talkies." Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds sang and danced their way into movie glory. My special celebratory tie originally belonged to high school band director Allan Durand Stephens, given to me by Mary Lou so it would be shown again.

Tomorrow (29 January) marks the birthday of our daughter-by-inclusion Rachel Haskins. She shares that day with my sister-in-law whose tie choice will be shown tomorrow. Rachel is a school music and drama teacher in Lexington, and she asked for my tie that celebrates "Singin' In The Rain"! Our weather today in Kentucky is actually cold and snowy but we had heavy rain a few days ago. I did not go out to sing or dance.

My tie originally belonged to my friend Alan Durand Stephens.
