17 October 25

It's National Pasta Day! It's also long past(a) time to wear my Garfield tie (where he wears a necktie)! His favorite pasta is lasagna; for my own lunch I'm making an "alternate lasagna" dish with bowtie pasta.

19 June 22

This is Garfield the Cat Day! On this date in 1978, Jim Davis published the first Garfield® comic. "The world-renowned comic strip featuring Garfield is set in Muncie, Indiana." My tie features the lasagna-loving cat in a business suit -- wearing a striped necktie! Today is also Juneteenth National Independence Day -- but I have no tie relevant to the celebration of announcing the end of slavery to former slaves in Galveston, TX, in 1865.

Today is National Button Day! The National Button Society was founded in 1938, "to promote educational exhibits, encourage research, publish and disseminate information, and to preserve for future generations all that is beautiful and historic in buttons." The only tie in my collection that shows a button is on Garfield's® suit jacket. So I've added my own big button as a decoration.

21 June 21

Every year, 19 June is Garfield the Cat Day, celebrating Jim Davis' first comic strip for the orange cat's life in 1978. His appearance through my tie was delayed by the weekend, but everything about Garfield and this tie is perfectly suited to today's acclamation as National Stripes Day. (You may also officially celebrate stripes on 31 March.) Granddaughter Evelyn immediately pointed to Garfield's striped tie! Of course I am also participating in National Selfie Day, but I post those roughly five times every week. Today is National Day of the Gong, but I do not possess the essential equipment to celebrate that. Some of my friends also know that today is World Giraffe Day!

Garfield the Cat® made his first public appearance on 19 June 1978. So this is the 42nd celebration of Garfield the Cat Day!

19 June 19

It's Garfield the Cat Day! Jim Davis' lasagna-loving orange cat debuted on comic pages 41 years ago today. I'm enjoying "chicken parm lasagna" at Fazoli's® (at a special price, of course!).

Forty years of Garfield® comics! The lasagna-loving cat, whose life has been chronicled by Jim Davis, debuted in newspapers on this date in 1978. Here's a link to see the first comic strip.  Click to see today's celebration!

30 July 17

I'm honoring Jim Davis, chronicler of Garfield®, on his 72nd birthday yesterday! Garfield himself welcomed yesterday's celebrations of National Lasagna Day and International Tiger Day, and he ordered me to wear a white shirt as pictured for him in his business suit.

17 June 16

It's unorthodox for me to wear a tie on a Friday. Today's exception is required to celebrate the annual Paul Kevin Burberry Award presentation, by the University of Kentucky's Human Development Institute. Kevin was a dear family friend whose "disabilities" became a source of accomplishment for him and whose work in education and vocational rehabilitation continues to inspire others. The PKB award is a scholarship given to someone affiliated with the Human Development Institute. We are attending the luncheon with Clyde David and Susan Burberry, and just for fun I'm bringing Garfield® along. He wonders if there will be lasagna.

29 July 15

Three events nearly coincide today to make Garfield® very happy! (1) Yesterday was Jim Davis' 70th birthday -- the man who has chronicled Garfield's life for 37 years. (2) Today is International Tiger Day, reminding the whole world of the desperate outlook for the future of tigers. (3) Today is National Lasagna Day, celebrating Garfield's favorite food! Fazoli's® is providing free twice-baked lasagna to human customers (sorry, Garfield) who buy any drink.

22 June 15

Garfield® usually HATES Mondays, but this time he's helping me show off this Father's Day present! And he's wearing his own striped tie! His reward will be lasagna at lunchtime.

Tie-trivia note: this is my only tie with vertical stripes.
