12 July 22

Simplicity Day, honoring the birthday of Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), comes up annually on 12 July. From Walden: "Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb nail." I simply chose my blue denim tie and a pastel blue shirt.

I'm feeling very standardized today, and so I'm wearing a standard solid navy blue tie on a standard long-sleeve white shirt. Today is World Standards Day, celebrating the power and efficiency of technical standards for measuring “everything” in our lives. "The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy." (from Wikipedia) You'll know exactly what I'm talking about if you recognize the organizations known as ASME, IEC, ISO, ITU, IEEE, IETF, SCC, WCAG, ICWM, ASTM and NIST. And of course the FDA has the IFSS. Sometimes the officially adopted standards seem to interfere with genuine progress, as in the case of higher education accrediting agencies like SACS and HLC (formerly part of NCACS). Yay for standard acronyms!

It's Denim Day at EKU! It's a "Green Dot" project to foster awareness of sexual violence and support for victims, through the Ampersand of Central Kentucky. I'm wearing my denim jeans and denim shirt and denim tie, so I think I've got things well covered.
