Happy Birthday, Minh Nguyen! My tie is one that he bequeathed to me in 2019when he left Eastern Kentucky University for Florida Gulf Coast University. Minh and I taught together in the philosophy department and honors program, and he also checked in with me when he needed help with office technology and Blackboard.

Yesterday (3 July) was Minh Nguyen's birthday! Minh worked with me at Eastern Kentucky University for a long time, in the philosophy department and the Honors Program. When he moved to warm and sunny Florida Gulf Coast University in 2019 he gave up wearing ties and gave me some from his collection, including this beautiful design with gold ropes on navy. Happy Birthday, Minh!

Gold Rush Day! On this date in 1848, gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news of gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad. To celebrate the gold rush, I chose this rather formal tie with gold ropes and flourishes! And I'm wearing a shiny gold hair tie.

2 July 20

Tomorrow is the birthday of my philosophy-and-Honors friend Minh Nguyen. When he left EKU in May 2019 he gifted me with several excellent ties, and I'm glad to wear this one in his honor! He is currently a director in the Honors College at Florida Gulf Coast University. Today also marks the date in 1776 when the Continental Congress adopted a resolution to be independent of the rule of England, the date that John Adams expected to be celebrated as Independence Day.

Today at Eastern Kentucky University we're recognizing the excellent work of Dr. Minh Nguyen, my friend and comrade in the philosophy department and the Honors Program. He is moving to the Honors College at Florida Gulf Coast University. Yesterday he bequeathed me with some of his ties, and I've chosen this one for today! The gold elements in its design remind me of the ropes and tassels on epaulets and bed canopies.
