6 March 26

Ghana celebrates its independence (in 1957) on 6 March. My friend Beth Blanchard brought this red/gold/green/black tie back to me after a short mission trip there in 2007. It features the colors on Ghana's flag.

Helping to celebrate Independence Day in Ghana (1957), wearing my tie in Ghana's colors and enjoying a moment with our Ghanaian elephant "Kwabene" (from Habitat for Humanity). "On this day in 1957, Ghana became the first African country south of the Sahara to gain independence from colonial rule. As the first for the region, Ghana and its independence movement catalyzed independence movements in other African countries." (Google) Google® has a special doodle for this day. The tie was brought back to me by my friend Beth Blanchard after a short term mission trip in 2007. And yesterday was Beth Blanchard's birthday!

My tie today celebrates Independence Day in Ghana (tomorrow). It was gifted to me by my friend Beth Blanchard after a short-term mission trip there in 2007 -- and today is Beth's birthday! I am holding our Habitat for Humanity elephant who wears a Ghanaian flag on his foot, proving that my tie has the right colors!

This is the anniversary of Ghana's independence from Great Britain, in 1957. At that time the country was known as the Gold Coast. My tie in Ghana's official colors was given to me by Beth Blanchard in 2007 following a short-term mission adventure there.

This is World Communion Sunday. At Nicholasville Presbyterian Church, we were encouraged to bring breads from all nations, and also to wear clothing associated with other countries. I chose to wear my tie featuring the national colors of Ghana.
