11 September 22

Every 10 September is "Blame It On The Large Hadron Collider Day," a time to shift the blame for losing things over to the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC (in Switzerland) was first fired up on 10 September 2008. Since it is capable of creating (very small) black holes, we can use it easily to account for missing keys, socks, twenty-dollar-bills, and so on. This golfing tie was given to me in 2012 but went missing about four years ago. I had intentionally bagged it with a few others to give away, but then the whole bag went into the Large Hadron Collider's black hole, until suddenly a few days ago the bag and its ties were instantly (?) recreated. And so I've recovered it for the next day!

It's National Golf Lover's Day! I do not really love golf, but I like this golf-themed tie.

Today is National Golf Day. I am not a golfer, but I have this interesting tie so I have to take this opportunity to wear it!

21 September 14

Today is International Miniature Golf Day. My tie with the old-style-golfer design once belonged to a resident at Telford Terrace, the personal care facility where I visit every Sunday evening. He and his wife enjoyed my ties and they gave me several from his collection.

25 August 13

August 25 is (always) Secondhand Wardrobe Day. I'm wearing a tie given to me just over a year ago by the wife of a resident at Telford Terrace. (See more about this seniors' care facility on yesterday's entry.) I am not a golfer but I like the colors and design of this tie.

5 July 12

The main occasions for July 5 are: (1) birthday of Jean Marlow, my comrade in Information Technology at EKU; (2) birthday of Bill Watterson, creator of the Calvin and Hobbes® comic; (3) birthday of Corey Reynolds, "Sgt. Gabriel" on The Closer, and (4) first display of the bikini, in Paris in 1946. None of those have anything to do with golf, and I am only a fan of the miniature version. Do golfers actually dress like this in real life? This tie was a recent gift from friends at Telford Terrace, a personal care facility where I visit most Sunday evenings.
