National Stripes Day is observed annually on 31 March. It's sponsored by the J. Crew company, intended (of course) to inspire you to buy more striped clothing. I have about 20 striped ties, all gifts from friends and relatives. This one with bold horizontal stripes came to me from EKU philosophy comrade Minh Nguyen when he moved from Kentucky to super-sunny Florida. My shirt is also striped, and I'm wearing more stripes where you can't see them.

Today's birthday of my friend and former EKU Honors colleague Minh Nguyen makes a great occasion to wear this unusual tie -- which Minh bequeathed to me in 2019! It is one of three ties in my collection with bold horizontal stripes; the other ones are associated with the cartoon characters Dilbert and The Cat in the Hat. I think the colors on this tie (red, yellow, white and dark green on navy blue) resemble a national flag, but I haven't found one that matches that combination well. The closest ones seem to be Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ethiopia and Mauritius. Minh has just been appointed to the position of Interim Dean of the Honors College at Florida Gulf Coast University. Happy Birthday, Minh!

Today I started with a celebration of National Nude Day, for a very private shower. At this time last year I wore a "tape measure tie" to honor the patenting (in 1868) of the spring-click tape measure. This year I'm taking the chance to wear these bold horizontal stripes, not shown since July 2019. I think their colors (red, yellow, white and dark green on navy blue) resemble a national flag, but I haven't found one that matches that combination well. The closest ones seem to be Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ethiopia and Mauritius. Of course the red, white and blue can be tied to today's celebrations in France of Bastille Day (from 1789).
