5 October 23

Today marks the 121st anniversary of the birth of Ray Kroc, the man who franchised McDonald's® into a global powerhouse. (He died in 1984.) My tie shows a "cityscape" built from McDonald's foods and trademarks.

Ray Kroc was born on 5 October 1902. He became famous for creating the ingenious fast-food marketing scheme known as franchising. Beginning from a simple agreement with the McDonald brothers to distribute their burgers and milk shakes, he created the world's largest restaurant chain. My tie shows a "city" created around golden arches with lots of burgers, fries, drinks and ice cream cone decorations.

Ray Kroc, who developed the art of restaurant franchising with the amazing evolution of McDonald's®, was born on 5 October 1902. My tie may have originally belonged to someone in McDonald's management. For today's lunch I'm getting some McNuggets® at a very special price!

15 April 20

65 years ago today, Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald's® restaurant, near Chicago, Illinois. He got the idea and basic process for delivering fast food from the McDonald brothers who cooked burgers in California, but Kroc saw the enormous potential for "franchising" restaurants nationwide (and then internationally). My "cityscape" tie may have belonged to a McDonald's® manager before it wound up in a Goodwill store where I found it!

On Pi Day, Ben and Amanda's foster child turned 5! We celebrated with her today, and she chose my McDonald's "cityscape" tie. She especially likes pancakes at McDonald's but for today's family lunch she chose to go to Cracker Barrel (where she ordered pancakes!).

Today marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of Ray Kroc, the man who franchised McDonald's® into a global powerhouse. (He died in 1984.) My tie shows a "cityscape" built from McDonald's foods and trademarks. And of course for lunch today I had a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, purchased on a buy-one-get-one-free deal shared with Wilma Wollenweber!

I'm wearing my McDonald's® "cityscape" tie (with architecture featuring foods and corporate symbols) to honor yesterday's birthday of Ray Kroc (1902-1984). He created the McDonald's® empire through franchising. Today is also National Noodle Day, so there's a spiral noodle hanging from my tie clip.

My tie today is a McDonald's® "cityscape," with scenery and buildings based on McDonald's® food and symbols! Ray Kroc, who franchised the drive-in restaurant business begun by Richard and Maurice McDonald, was born on this date in 1902. I found this tie at a Goodwill store several years ago.

Happy Birthday, Ray Kroc! Born in 1902, Ray became the mastermind behind the McDonald's® empire. This tie features a "cityscape" of McDonald's food and imagery.

As in past years on October 5, today I'm helping to celebrate the birthday of Ray Kroc (in 1902), who bought the McDonald brothers' hamburger-stand business and created the franchising business structure. At least this year I'm wearing a different tie.

Today is "National Secondhand Wardrobe Day," a time to honor the "gently used" clothes you've obtained via hand-me-down or from thrift stores. Among my ties, one of the best examples of secondhandedness is my McDonald's® cityscape tie, which was probably originally owned by a McDonald's® store manager. I visited the local Goodwill store today but there were no ties of breathtaking wonderfulness.

Thirty years of McNuggets®! McDonald's introduced Chicken McNuggets in June, 1980. I found this tie at the Richmond Goodwill store.
