 Today is one of two annual National Flower Days. We have a lot of daffodils in our yard!

In Japan, today is Chrysanthemum Day, a floral festival. So I'm wearing a tie featuring flowers of various colors on a red background. Our yard currently has blooms from crepe myrtle, Jerusalem artichoke and ironweed.

Today is one of at least two occasions honored as National Flower Day. Another one is 21 March. My tie has large dark flowers on a red background.

Yesterday was the 263rd anniversary of the publication of Linnaeus' Species Plantarum, which set the standards for botanical classification. So May 1 is celebrated annually as Plant Taxonomy Day. My flowery tie bloomed today.

Today is "Power of Maroon Day" at Eastern Kentucky University. I am not much of a fan of school spirit but I'm cooperating in this exercise just for the fun of it.

It's our final week of preparations for Ben-and-Amanda's wedding! I wore this tie featuring purple flowers for my regular weekly visit to the residents at Telford Terrace, a personal care center in Richmond. The photos were taken inside the greenhouse where we helped many of the plants avoid frosty weather!

In Japan, April 8 is known as Hana Matsuri, a day for flower festivals, in honor of Buddha. The exact date of Siddhartha's birth is unknown, with celebrations at different times across Asia.

Today is the "International Day of Non-Violence," selected by the United Nations General Assembly to honor the birthday of Mohandas Gandhi. I chose to wear flowers on a very blue background.

June is a very popular month for special observances. According to various Web sites, June has been designated as National Safety Month, National Accordion Awareness Month, Potty-Training Awareness Month, Headache Awareness Month, National Candy Month and (perhaps most noteworthy of all) Goat Trauma Awareness Month. Next week is Appreciate Your Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Professionals Week. One site that tracks a lot of these special events is ePromos. But you'll have to visit http://www.goat-trauma.org/ to buy your Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation t-shirt. I have no tie to celebrate goats or accordions. I chose this flowery one in honor of Great Outdoors Month, Perennial Gardening Month, and National Rose Month.
