Great Events in Economics apparently come in threes: Today marks
  • the birthday of Adam Smith in 1723 (note: this is uncertain; other references say June 16, and some refer to the 5th or the 16th as his baptism)
  • the birthday of John Maynard Keynes in 1883
  • the end of the gold standard for U.S. currency in 1933
I discovered later that this tie repeats April 15. Oh well, go figure.
