2 February 24

The second day in February is celebrated in many different ways, including Groundhog Day and National Wear Red Day. In France it is known as Crêpe Day, matching up with the religious holiday called Candlemas (La Chandeleur). I'm not eating crêpes today but I'm using the occasion to wear my new crêpe paper tie, created by my friend Melanie Givan. According to Wikipedia, "Crêpe paper was one of the few exceptions to the aversion to paper clothing from the late 1920s onward, particularly as a material for making accessories for fancy-dress costumes." I'm very happy to have this unique addition to my ties!
