11 February 24

Beth gave me this excellent navy cable sweater and I needed a good day to wear it -- today's cold temperatures make it possible! My pink-and-blue stripes tie hasn't been worn in a few years. But the real occasion for 11 February is National White Shirt/White T-Shirt Day. It "commemorates the day a historic auto worker strike resolved on February 11, 1937. . . At the time of the General Motors strike, only foremen and supervisors were allowed to wear white shirts. The thought was if all the workers wore white shirts, they couldn't fire them all." The National Day was initiated by Bert Christenson, a member of UAW Local 598, on February 11, 1948.
