6 September 23

This is the date calculated as "the creation," in 3113 BCE, according to the Maya/Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar. Another significant calendar event a few days ago (2 September), in 1752, was the change from the Julian to Gregorian calendar in the British terrirories, including the American colonies. That change caused the loss of 11 days, as the date following 2 September was declared to be 14 September. My tie is covered with sunbursts and number grids that appear to be counting cycles in celestial events. In navigational history, today marks the date in 1492 when Christopher Columbus sailed from the Canary Islands, the last port before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and the date in 1620 when the Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, to sail to Massachusetts for religious freedom.
